Kid Nation in the Classroom

12/6/2011

Kid Nation was a reality television broadcast in 2007.  The purpose of the program was to charge 40 children, ages 8 to 15, with the creation of a functional society in an abandoned town in the United States.  Kids needed to address many of the elements that first civilizations managed.

Sixth grade students viewed video segments to understand the challenges of early river civilizations.  They were totally engaged in the clips and had valid takeaways and insights.

Students, leave some of your insights.

I used to watch this show growing up. I believe this is a good source to learn things if it is on topic of the class. It is fun, entertaining and informational.

I remember this show! I feel bad for the kids, having to go 40 days without knowing what they should do without parental guidance and whatnot.

For anyone wondering why the show was cancelled, it was cancelled due to parents suing the people who made the show because of the way the kids were treated.

I saw this show before. I thought it was really mean how the children were treated. Thanks for posting this.
